General Requirements

Class A CDL and be 21 years old or older
No SAP program
Current DOT physical
Be able to successfully complete a drug and alcohol screen
Be able to successfully pass a road test
Must possess a good track record of on-time deliveries and reliability
Must have a steady work history averaging 1 year or more at jobs in the last 4 years

No DUI, OWI, reckless driving, or other major moving violations within the past 5 years
Less than 2 instances in any 12-month period
Less than 3 instances in any 36-month period (An instance is a moving violation or preventable accident)
No more than 1 preventable accident in any 36-month period

SDAP Requirements

Safe Drive Apprenticeship Program (SDAP) is a 3-year program that allows individuals 18, 19, and 20 to explore interstate trucking careers and help trucking companies hire and train new drivers through an apprenticeship pilot program.

For the 2-year period preceding the date of hire, an apprentice driver may not have:

Had more than one license (except for a military license);
Had their license suspended, revoked, canceled, or disqualified for a violation in any State;
Had any conviction for a violation of military, State, or local motor vehicle traffic law (other than a parking violation) in connection with any traffic crash; or had any record of a crash in which they were at fault.
Been convicted of any violation below in any type of motor vehicle:
- Operating under the influence of alcohol; Operating under the influence of a controlled substance;
- Refusing to take an alcohol test as required by State; Leaving the scene of a crash; or Using a vehicle to commit a felony.
